Q1 - With windowless AC units, why is venting so crucially important?
A1 - The reason is because these types of air conditioners extract the hot air. In order for them to cool a room effectively and efficiently, the hot air must be ventilated to the outside of the home. Anytime you buy a windowless AC (portable), the window vents are included in the kits. You can vent the AC through windows, walls, basements, or even ceilings. Sometimes people just vent them through a door! Usually the vents for portable ACs are made out of plexiglass. The plexiglass has to be cut to fit the window, and then the hole has to be about 5". This is then set over an open window. Then the portable unit is able to vent the air to the outside. The benefit to using plexiglass, is that it allows as much light to pass through it as regular window glass.
Q2 - What exactly are windowless air conditioner units?
A2 - These ACs are units that are easily transferred from room to room and are self-contained. Permanent installations are not necessary. They do, however, require the venting process. After positioning your portable AC you want to make sure you run your exhaust hose to somewhere outside the house.
Q3 - What steps must I take in order to vent my windowless air conditioner?
A3 -
(a). The first thing to do is find a satisfactory location to vent your unit.
(b). Now you want to slide your exhaust connector over the top of the discharge opening located on the back of the AC.
(c). Next, connect your exhaust hose and exhaust connector together.
(d). Make the window kit fit your opening by making whatever adjustments are necessary. If need be, mark and but your kit to make a proper fit for your opening.
(e). Connect your window kit adapter for ventilation to your window kit.
(f). Place your window ventilation kit into the window. Now connect your exhaust hose to your window kit adapter and close the window. The portable AC is now operational.
Be sure your exhaust hose is kept straight when you are actually venting your system. Increasing the exhaust hose length is not recommended. However, shortening it is ok. Extension cord use is also not recommended.
This entire process will vary some from one type of unit to another. The main thing to keep in mind, is to follow the instructions that come with your unit to the letter. The proper ventilating of your unit along with strict adherence to your maintenance instructions, will help cause your windowless air conditioner unit to last for a lot of years to come.
Benefits of These AC Units
The biggest benefits are their energy efficiency, better room temperature control, help in areas of poor cooling systems, ability to de-humidify, they are drip-free, and your view from the windows does not need to be blocked. These are all good examples of why these AC units are so popular on the marketplace today.
